“You will spend more time with the people you work with than almost anyone else. It is important that we are a family.”

– Michael McCrary

When I signed my paperwork to become a PureSpectrum employee one year ago today, I was expecting to have a job. Go into the office, get my work done, get paid, go home. Easy.

But that’s not exactly what I got. Of course, yes, I came into the office everyday, got my work down and got paid, but I did it surrounded by people who have become like my second family. It was something I never expected to have, nor was something I expected to treasure.

At PureSpectrum, you are challenged to take risks and work hard as with any growing company, but you do it all while being part of a supportive network of your colleagues. I’ve been up at 1 am on a Sunday working on deliverables for a client, but I’ve also gotten up out of my desk at 11 am on a Tuesday to blast down to Los Angeles because my grandmother had a stroke. In both situations I felt valued, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my peers.

I am surrounded by good people who care and lead by example, which means more to me than anything. There are days that feel a little overwhelming and you can sometimes feel out of your league, but you always have to remember that you’re in this family for a reason. Something like that holds an addictive quality; the crazy promise of being part of something bigger than yourself.

It goes without saying that we have an awesome platform that is working to move an entire industry forward. And even though that’s an amazing thing, if I’m being honest, that isn’t why I am here.

As we have grown from just 10 people when I signed that paperwork to now over 25, that sticky sense of family has only grown for me. I have schooled the Chief Product Officer in ping pong, got my butt handed to me by the VP of Client Success in go-karts, shared the hardest laughs of my life with our Supply Manager over lunch at a regular office spot, and, most importantly, found a place I truly believe I belong and can make a difference. Sitting down to a happy hour with some of the best people I’ve ever met is always a privilege.

Even as the going gets tough, even as we continue to grow and change, I am learning first hand that the true success of a business can be measured by the character of the people who built it.

One year has flown by, while at the same time not feeling like long enough. Suddenly, my life was completed by something I didn’t expect to have. The challenge we face now is strengthening our core culture as we continue to expand. I will always continue to welcome the dreamers of the world to this team, because PureSpectrum has changed my perspective on what going to work can truly mean.
