Like many words in the English language, appreciation has many meanings and has evolved over time. For example, appreciation can mean understanding, it can mean an increase in value, and of course, a feeling of expression of admiration, approval, or gratitude. Brainy grammarians even squabbled over the evolution of the word appreciate in the 19th century as the original definition evolved from to set a value on something while others argued that appreciate should not be used for increases in value. Fortunately, the quibbles ended and we now regularly use the word appreciation in both senses and no one really gives it a second thought.

Today, I choose appreciation as an expression of gratitude in celebrating Employee Appreciation Day. PureSpectrum’s devoted, passionate, intelligent, caring, innovative and ambitious employees are the reason why the company has grown from a startup in 2016, to a thriving global company with over 200 employees around the globe. Although I always believed PureSpectrum would be successful, I admit that I never imagined that we’d have employees on five different continents with over two thirds of our employees outside of our launch pad in North America. Having just traveled to meet with our employees in the UK, India, Singapore and Australia, I couldn’t be more proud of the amazing people around the world that work for PureSpectrum. It brings me great pride to see how the company has attracted and retained so many talented people while maintaining a strong culture whereby individuals can grow and flourish in their careers and provide for their families.

Every year we set ambitious growth targets and I’m keenly aware of the pressure, time, energy, and responsibility that is carried by everyone at the company. People at PureSpectrum don’t just have jobs, they are on a mission. A mission to make life easier for our clients and help companies make better business decisions. There are many stressful days, occasional weekend disruptions, time away from friends and family, and more after-hour email and slack messages than I’d like to admit. So today, on Employee Appreciation Day I would like to say with heart-felt gratitude, admiration and approval…I appreciate you.
